Head of the Department of Botany with 39 years of academic leadership — pioneering research across botany, biotechnology, and satellite-based environmental science, and mentoring a generation of scientists.
Three and a half decades at the frontier of botanical science — bridging classical plant biology with modern geospatial and environmental technology.
Dr. Sharma specialises in botany and biotechnology, with deep expertise in mycoflora, microbiology, biodeterioration and plant conservation. Over a 39-year career she has built a research identity that spans the microscopic world of fungi to the satellite view of entire landscapes. Over a 39-year career she has mentored scholars, authored books and led her department with distinction.
She has extended her scientific reach into remote sensing & GIS for environmental assessment, monitoring and management, and continues to explore emerging fields such as Artificial Intelligence and Eco-Housing.

10 books with an international publisher in botany & remote sensing.
Decades of scholarship distilled into a record of mentorship, discovery and recognition.
From fungal spores under the microscope to land-surface change seen from orbit — a research portfolio without borders.
The foundation of Dr. Sharma's Ph.D. and lifelong research — extensive work on mycoflora, microbiology, biodeterioration, fungal studies, plant diseases and conservation, accumulated over decades leading the department.
Applied optical satellite remote sensing for environmental monitoring, conservation, surveying and management — with GIS-based mapping, LULC analysis, vegetation/water/urban indices, change detection and land-surface-temperature studies.
Environmental assessment, monitoring and management form her core specialisation. She continues to expand into Artificial Intelligence and sustainable Eco-Housing — uniting ecological science with future-facing technology.
A distinguished record of awards, scholarly leadership and academic service.
